— Eric Lodwick. I think I might’ve taken Chuck’s quote out of context a little bit. A lot of the points made here, he actually agrees with - he said a lot of interesting stuff that I didn’t catch word for word. His tone is definitely the most offputting because if you know him, he’s really set in his ways. However, I think for the most part, he’s right. At the core of it, it’s an argument against people who want to be perceived as artistic, but are too lazy to find out and pursue what actually interests them - and in turn become an amalgum of second-hand interests who are left with no particular passion one way or the other. He was more or less using those movies as an example (obviously not everyone who thought Napoleon Dynamite was funny thinks this way, in fact I remember Chuck saying he loved it) as something thats artistic and sometimes doing the right thing, but also readily accessible. I asked him if he meant “Hipster” and he said that this was something different and broader. I must agree with higher standards being a good thing, but at the same time I can’t stand it when this safe art gets an oscar nomination.
Agreed! I think I was just calling this out to make a point on the H-word situation. Let us hang out and discuss further!
